The importance of size: how do you get the right fit for your gold bracelet?

Wearing a well-fitting gold bracelet is essential for combining comfort and elegance. A jewel that’s too tight can hinder your movements and leave marks, while one that’s too loose can slip off or get lost. At Bracelets Kern, we offer a collection of 9K gold bracelets designed to fit your wrist perfectly. Find out how to choose and adjust the size of your bracelet for ideal wear.

Why is the size of a gold bracelet essential?

The choice of a gold bracelet is not limited to its design or material. The size of the bracelet is a determining factor in its comfort and aesthetics. A bracelet that’s too tight can impede blood circulation, while one that’s too wide can slip off or get lost.

How to measure your wrist for the perfect bracelet?

Steps to measure your wrist

  1. Use a tape measure: Wrap it around your wrist, just above the bone.
  2. Note the measurement obtained: Add 1 to 2 cm according to your wearing preference (tight or loose).
  3. Use string as an alternative: If you don’t have a tape measure, use a piece of string and measure it with a ruler.

Standard bracelet sizes

  • Female between 16 and 19 cm
  • Male between 19 and 22 cm
  • Child between 12 and 15 cm

What to do if your gold bracelet is too big?

How to shorten a gold bracelet

If your bracelet is too wide, here are several solutions:

  • Have links removed: A jeweler can remove links to adjust the size.
  • Add an adjustment ring: some models allow you to add an intermediate ring to adjust the length.
  • Use an adjustable clasp: Some clasps allow precise size adjustment.

Different types of clasps and their impact on fit

There are several types of clasp that influence the ease of adjustment of a gold bracelet:

  • Lobster clasp: Strong and secure, but often requires a jeweler to adjust the size.
  • Spring clasp: Easy to handle, but can be fragile over time.
  • Ratchet clasp: Ideal for precise adjustment, often used on luxury bracelets.
  • Magnetic clasp: Practical for people who have difficulty handling small clasps, but less secure.
  • T-clasp (Toggle): Elegant design, but not adjustable after manufacture.

When fitting your bracelet, it’s important to choose a clasp that meets your needs for comfort and security.

Tips for adjusting a bracelet that’s too big or too tight

Adjusting an oversized bracelet

  • Have links removed: The best option for a precise fit without damaging the bracelet.
  • Use an adjustable clasp: Some bracelets can be adjusted on several levels.
  • Adding a silicone lining: A temporary solution to slightly shrink the size of the bracelet.
  • Wearing the bracelet higher on the arm: If the model allows, wearing it higher on the forearm can limit slippage.

Adjusting a too-tight bracelet

  • Add extra links: A jeweler can lengthen your bracelet by inserting identical links.
  • Use an extension chain: Easy to add, it enlarges the size of the bracelet.
  • Change the clasp for a longer model: Some clasps allow you to add a few extra millimeters.
  • Gently stretch the bracelet (for soft models): To be done only with suitable materials, such as certain gold chains.

Mistakes to avoid when adjusting your bracelet

  1. Not measuring your wrist correctly: A common mistake that can make fitting difficult. Take the time to measure accurately.
  2. Forcing the bracelet: Trying to enlarge or shrink a gold bracelet without the proper tools can damage the metal.
  3. Using inappropriate tools: Only jewellers have the right equipment for precise adjustment.
  4. Ignore clasp wear: A clasp that is too worn may not close properly after adjustment, leading to risk of loss.
  5. Do not check link compatibility: When a bracelet is shortened or lengthened, it is essential that the links added or removed are identical to the original ones.

How do I adjust a gold bracelet that’s too small?

If your bracelet is too tight, there are several solutions:

  • Add additional links: A jeweler can add similar links.
  • Changing the clasp: A longer clasp is sometimes all you need.
  • Use an extension chain: Easy to add, it enlarges the size of the bracelet.

Tips for wearing your gold bracelet according to size

  • Slim, fitted bracelet: Ideal for a minimalist, elegant style.
  • Slightly loose bracelet: For a more relaxed effect.
  • Stacking bracelets: Combine several bracelets of different sizes for a trendy effect.

How do you choose the right bracelet size for your style?

According to your morphology

  • Small wrists: Opt for slim, fitted bracelets.
  • Medium cuffs: All styles are suitable.
  • Wide wrists: Choose larger bracelets.

According to your astrological sign

Certain gemstones are associated with astrological signs and influence the choice of jewelry:

  • Aries (diamond, ruby): Choose a gold bracelet with these stones.
  • Taurus (emerald, rose quartz): Choose soft shades.
  • Gemini (aquamarine, citrine): Choose light, dynamic models.

Use & Maintenance

Your Kern jewel has been designed with great care according to the requirements and rules of the jewelry industry. Each step of the manufacturing process has been carried out with the utmost care, in order to create an exceptional piece. To keep it looking its best, we recommend that you carefully follow our maintenance tips:

Tips for use

When you are not wearing it, it is preferable to store your jewellery in its original case or pouch, thus avoiding rubbing with other jewellery, shocks and scratches.

When wearing your jewelry, be sure to handle it gently to avoid bumps and falls. It is preferable to remove your jewellery when practising sports.

Avoid contact with salt water, sand, cosmetics, perfumes, detergents and any corrosive product that could alter precious metals and gems.

We recommend that you have the condition of your jewellery checked every year. Do not hesitate to make an appointment with our workshops to have the crimps, clasps and their double security checked. During this visit, our jewellers will know how to revive the brilliance of your pieces and give back to the gems all their vivacity.

Maintenance instructions

To intensify the shine of your jewelry, do not hesitate to rub them with a soft and dry cloth. If you wish to clean them, you can immerse them in soapy water (PH neutral soap) to eliminate impurities due to pollution.

Then rinse them with clean water and dry them carefully with a soft cloth.

This procedure does not apply to bracelets set with emeralds, for which we recommend special attention.

Polishing and rhodium-plating operations, which are effective in restoring the shine to your jewellery, cannot be repeated too frequently.

The first polishing and rhodium plating are offered by Kern. The following, which should preferably be carried out in our workshops, are at the customer’s expense.
